Treasures to last
A striking beech and rosewood chopping board. The two woods sit well together whilst being very strong and hard wearing, it is finished with foodsafe oils to enhance the beauty of the wood whilst still being useable. This board sits on integral full width legs for stability and regal presentation. The tapered end cuts fit the fingers for a comfortable carry. Great for cheese and crackers.
I have been commissioned to make these in the past and I have now finally got around to making one for general sale. This is a totally unique piece and is sure to be a collectors item.
hand finished down to 1200 grit sand paper to enhance the grain, then hand polished with my own blend of waxes to a beautiful shine.
SIZE; 21cm long x 3.5cm thick at its widest point or 8 1/4" x just over 1 1/4"
Definately not a run of the mill Fid
This one is something special
This stunning Sailors Fid is made from 2 of the most expensive woods in the world Masur Birch & Snakewood
The Masur Birch has a stunning almost 3 dimensional effect whilst the grain in the Snakewood is showing just why it got its name.
A tapered wooden spike called a 'fid' or Fid pin,Marlin Spike, is the traditional splicing tool . Used by sailors when making and repairing ropes and lines. Used to make knots, pry knots apart and make rope splices on sailing ships. Made in the style you would have commonly find on sailing ships.
As with all my exotic pieces this Fid comes complete with a certificate of authenticity and can be signed, dated, and numbered by request. This is a treasure to last.
